Sharepoint is Dead

February 28, 2008
Google has unveiled  the re-worked JotSpot and I am loving the new Google Docs “Sites” feature.  This is truly a Microsoft Sharepoint killer.  I am going to step out on a limb here and predict that Microsoft Office Suite will find itself playing second fiddle to Google Docs in less then 18 months. Check out my VendAsta post here for proof!  If you own Microsoft Shares I say SELL!
Oh and by the way, as Saskatoon Software Developers, we are really taking “Scrum” to a new level here. It is not just a development process!

Brendan’s and Coni’s Valentines Present

February 19, 2008

… And were back!   I had a brief blogging hiatus as I was busy with far more important things.   Things more important than anything else.  In fact, I just had the best Valentines present I could ever ask for!  Coni and I gave  birth to Elaine Jeannette King.  She was born Valentine’s day, which, coincidentally is also my mother’s birthday.  She was born with a minimum of fuss at 13:24, weighing 7lbs 1 oz and measuring 19.5″ long.   I think she is perfect!  I have had a lot of requests to put up some photos.  Instead, I thought I would give you peak at her less than 1 minute after she was born!

 Here she is!

Daddy Teasing Elaine only minutes after she is born!

A Real Team is a Lot of Fun

February 7, 2008
Going to work shouldn’t be this much fun.  I was thinking about our environment at VendAsta last night and trying to put my finger on what makes it so fun.  Why is it so easy to get up in the morning and come to work? It’s definitely the people you work with.  That said, it sure is easy to say the work TEAM.  But what does a TEAM really mean?  There are a lot of definitions and the word can be applied many ways.   For example one definition of a team is “Two or more draft animals used to pull a vehicle or farm implement”.   Around here, however, our definition of a team is more like this: ” a group individuals who interact dynamically, interdependently and adaptively to achieve specified, shared, and valued objectives in an environment of respect and trust.”
Unfortunately, there are way too many companies out there where the “Team” definition feels more like the first and less like ours.  It is easy to say the word “Team” but it is truly special when it is reflected by reality. So I have come to the conclusion that the fact we have a real “Team” is the reason we are having so much fun around here.
You can check out how much fun by checking out this video!
