So at Point2 we syndicate data for real estate professionals. If you’re a Point2 Agent you already know that you can enter your listing and have it show up on your website. You also know that your listing will, via Handshake™ share on all your Handshake™ partners’ websites. You know too, now, that your listing can syndicate to our syndication network of 14 partners including:
Googlebase, New York Times, Trulia, Point2homes, Propsmart, Edgeio, LiveDeal, Yahoo Classifieds, Real Estate Advisor, US Condo Exchange and more. Now you can also buy Spotlight ads on Point2homes and New York Times and automatically create a Google Adwords for your listing.
You also know that you completely control where your listings go and how they are displayed. You know that your brand and contact info are always displayed with your listings.
You know exactly how much traffic: detailed views, clicks and prospects that your listing is generating and from what source. You are able to make accurate ROI calculations. You know that your seller can log in and see the results, and you know they will love you for it.
Today, Zillow announce that agents can enter for sale listings into Zillow. So what I want to know is this: If you were an agent or broker adding listings to our system would you opt them in or out of Zillow?

Brendan asked: Would I opt in to send my P2 listings to Zillow?
Sure. Why not? The more exposure the better. The Zillow interface seems easy to use, but if all I have to do is check a box on my P2 syndication page, then all the better.
Many agents seem to fear Zillow, which I’ve never understood. Are Zestimates 100% accurate? Of course not. Never have been, never will be. But Zillow contains a *wealth* of data, and the folks at Zillow are marketing wizards. Zillow is poised to become the “Google of real estate” (if Google doesn’t buy them out first….). So of course I want my listings on Zillow.
There’s already a little (very little) buzz on the P2 user forum about Zillow having “listings.” Many agents will be against it. So let those agents opt-out. This agent would opt-in in a heartbeat, as should any other that truly wants to get their listings maximum exposure.
Now I have a question for you Brendan: Why is this blog on wordpress.com instead of running on the Point 2 Blogging platform?

Whoops, should have linked my name to my Point 2 home page, not that old blog entry (though it was a good one for a non-real estate blog entry).

Thanks for the comments in insight Jay. On the blogging front I was wondering when someone would ask me that. Back when we didn’t have a blog product a number of us went out and fired up blogs on different platforms. I choose to be “the WordPress guy” in part because Robert Scoble was using it. I fully intend to switch everything over our product, and I guess there is no time like the present. However, as you can see, I am a sporadic blogger at best. Hopefully I will find make more time in the new year.
Again thanks for the feedback.

I understand completely Brendan, I just have to give you guys a hard time!
The new Point 2 blogging product is *outstanding*. Based on everything else P2 does, I’m sure it will only get better. I even blogged about it on my “non-Point 2″ blog (also running on WordPress). It’s one of my most viewed and commented posts.

Zillow? Hmmmmm. The jury is still out in my mind. I agree with most of what Jay said. I have a problem with the fact that their property values are so way off the mark in our market area. Why do I want to feature properties on pages where the host of the web site is calculating values that are often 50% or more HIGHER than a realistic list and sale price?
The Zestimates are just way off the mark here. More exposure is good, but more confusion in the minds of consumers is NOT good.
BTW … you folks have a heck of a product here … I’m working with a new site and I am WILDLY impressed with the whole package. The functionality is DYNAMITE. It is truly “lust at first sight”

[...] As you might have discerned by now, I DO NOT BELIEVE the value of realtor is attributable to their access to information. Most Realtors provide real value, whether buying or selling a home. Many of these successful Realtors understand that Zillow and others like them will not destroy their value. Real estate professionals bring tremendous value to the table including: Marketing prowess, negotiation skills, market knowledge, local knowledge, education, legal and contractual obligations and just plain common understanding of the local business environment and pitfalls to avoid. However, these reasons alone might not be enough to ensure that the profession, as we know it, will prosper and flourish. As Saul Klein commented here it certainly is “time for brokers and agents to take back their future”. [...]
